Session Description: In this session, participants who are experienced mentor coaches and supervisors (and coaches who coach groups), as well as those wishing to step into working with groups, will explore best practices drawn from research and lived experience related to facilitating groups. Topics include ethics and well-being; impactful processes for managing group dynamics and group setup (whether established groups, drop-in groups, one-off group sessions, or internal organizational groups); power and influence; the group leader’s presence; harvesting learning collectively; integrating learning into practice; and handling “tricky” situations. The costs and benefits of group work compared with one-on-one coaching will also be examined.
Learning Objectives:
Explore and embody ICF Core, Mentor Coaching, Supervision and Coach Educator competencies relevant to managing groups through experiential, inclusive activities — enhancing presence, active listening and partnership through creative modalities.
Practice co-creating learning with groups by applying proven techniques, deepening awareness of how embodied and other tools and approaches expand reflection and transform the work, both online and in person.
Integrate systemic reflective practices to design psychologically safe, culturally sensitive group development spaces that honor diversity of thought, experience and expression — anchoring ICF principles of ethics, partnership and continuous development.
